BIBLICAL MARRIAGE: how to take a wife and become a wife in holiness and honour

Share with:

INTRODUCTION

This has been designed to be a biblical standard guide to those wanting to enter the purest form of marriage for men on how to take a wife for himself in holiness and honour, and for women on how to become a wife in holiness and honour, wherein YAH God is the Father and master of your marriage union, not the state or government, where the standards of YAH God are adhered to so that his blessings will abound throughout their union and house.

My aim is to keep this as succinct as possible to enable the reader to understand how to enter into the ultimate form of covenant marriage union with confidence that they are entering into the marriage union according to the same biblical standards as the fathers of The Faith, from Abraham, Isaac, Jacob and Moses, Gideon, David and Solomon all the way to the apostle Peter. So that you are able to be in a position to be blessed by him and fulfil the original biblical mandate set by the creator and sustainer of heavens and the earth and every living thing.

And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth. [Gen 1:28 ]

From the beginning the purpose of marriage was to establish the kingdom of YAH and his glory on the earth as we see from this scripture

man is the image and glory of God: but the woman is the glory of the man.

YAH

Therein is the order for the glory of YAH to be made manifest on the earth, as we see that the heavens already declare the Glory of YAH God,

The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth his handywork. [Psa 19:1 ]
By the word of YAH were the heavens made; and all the host of them by the breath of his mouth. [Psa 33:6 ]
[[A Psalm of David.]] The earth [is] YAH'S, and the fulness thereof; the world, and they that dwell therein. [Psa 24:1 ]
The heavens [are] thine, the earth also [is] thine: [as for] the world and the fulness thereof, thou hast founded them. [Psa 89:11 ]

For the earth [is] YAH’s, and the fulness thereof. [1Co 10:26 ]

The heaven, [even] the heavens, [are] YAH'S: but the earth hath he given to the children of men. [Psa 115:16 ]

But [as] truly [as] I live, all the earth shall be filled with the glory of YAH. [Num 14:21 ]

Definitions:

Husband:

Old English husbonda (in the senses ‘male head of a household’ and ‘manager, steward’), from Old Norse húsbóndi ‘master of a house’, from hús ‘house’ + bóndi ‘occupier and tiller of the soil’. The original sense of the verb was ‘till, cultivate’.

Wife:

a married woman considered in relation to her spouse. The word is of Germanic origin from Proto-Germanic *wībam, “woman”. In Middle English, it had the form wif, and in Old English wīf, “woman or wife”.

Marriage:

The state of a one flesh union, between a man and a woman, that is regulated by the laws, rules and customs of the holy scriptures, which prescribe the rights and duties of the man and woman to each other.

MARRIAGE

And Adam said, This [is] now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man. Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh. [Gen 2:23-24 ]

FUNCTION

MAN

Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this [is] the whole [duty] of man. [Ecc 12:13 ]

WOMAN

Likewise, women, [be] in subjection to your own husbands; that, if any obey not the word, they also may without the word be won by the conversation of the wives; While they behold your chaste conversation [coupled] with fear. Whose adorning let it not be that outward [adorning] of plaiting the hair, and of wearing of gold, or of putting on of apparel; But [let it be] the hidden man of the heart, in that which is not corruptible, [even the ornament] of a meek and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of God of great price. For after this manner in the old time the holy women also, who trusted in God, adorned themselves, being in subjection unto their own husbands: Even as Sara obeyed Abraham, calling him lord: whose daughters ye are, as long as ye do well, and are not afraid with any amazement. [1Pe 3:1-6 ]

MARRIAGE

Women (who are one flesh with a man), submit yourselves unto your own (man who is your) husband, as unto YAH. For the (man as her) husband is the head of the woman, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body. Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so [let] the women [be] to their own (man who is their) husband in every thing. (Men who are) Husbands, love your women, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it; That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word, That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish. So ought men to love their women (who they are one flesh with) as their own bodies. He that loves his wife (one flesh woman) loves himself. For no man ever yet hated his own flesh; but nourisheth and cherishes it, even as YAH the church: For we are members of his body, of his flesh, and of his bones. For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall be joined (one flesh) unto his woman, and they two shall be one flesh. This is a great mystery: but I speak concerning Christ and the church. Nevertheless let every one of you in particular so love his wife even as himself; and the wife (woman who is one flesh with her man) [see] that she reverence [her] husband. [Eph 5:22-33 ]

STATUS

Man:

The status of a man who becomes a husband unlocks favour from YAH God

[Whoso] findeth a wife findeth a good [thing], and obtaineth favour of YAH. [Pro 18:22 ]

Woman:

As a woman the status of wife is split into two categories which is ultimately defined by the woman but still carries the title and status of wife:

Concubine which is a woman who is one flesh and submitted to one man but due to other commitments, ie. Career, family responsibilities etc, is unable to devote herself to helping her man do what God has given him to do.

Help is a woman who is one flesh with and submitted and committed to one man only with no other responsibilities but to her man and their household.

Leah, Rachel, Bilhah and Zilpah are all referred to as the wives of Jacob although Bilhah and Zilpah were denoted as concubines as they were maids in servitude to someone else, in this case they were serving Leah and Rachel the two other wives of Jacob

Marriage:

Marriage [is] honourable in all, and the bed undefiled: but whoremongers and adulterers God will judge. [Heb 13:4 ]

HOW A GODLY MAN ACQUIRES A WOMAN / WIFE ACCORDING TO THE BIBLE

Finally, brethren, we beseech and exhort you in the Lord Jesus, that as you learned from us how you ought to live and to please God, just as you are doing, you do so more and more. For you know what instructions we gave you through the Lord Jesus. For this is the will of God, your sanctification: that you abstain from fornication; that each one of you know how to take a wife for himself in holiness and honour, not in the passion of lust like the gentiles who do not know God; that no man transgress, and wrong his brother in this matter, because YAH is an avenger in all these things, as we solemnly forewarned you. For God has not called us unto uncleanness, but unto holiness. Therefore whoever disregards this, disregards not man but God, who has given us his Holy Spirit. [1Th 4:1-8]

But I would have you without carefulness. He that is unmarried careth for the things that belong to YAH, how he may please YAH: But he that is married careth for the things that are of the world, how he may please [his] wife. — 1 Corinthians 7:32-33

Now when I passed by thee, and looked upon thee, behold, thy time [was] the time of love; and I spread my skirt over thee, and covered thy nakedness: yea, I sware unto thee, and entered into a covenant with thee, saith Yah, and thou becamest mine. — Ezekiel 16:8

As a man of Yah you have to understand that your ultimate goal with any woman you acquire will be in fulfilling the following instructions;

Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it; That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word, That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish. So ought men to love their wives as their own bodies. He that loveth his wife loveth himself. For no man ever yet hated his own flesh; but nourisheth and cherisheth it, even as YAH the church: For we are members of his body, of his flesh, and of his bones. For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall be joined unto his wife, and they two shall be one flesh. This is a great mystery: but I speak concerning Christ and the church. Nevertheless let every one of you in particular so love his wife even as himself; and the wife [see] that she reverence [her] husband. — Ephesians 5

So you must understand that you are taking on a divine responsibility when acquiring a woman. The way a man treats his woman has spiritual ramifications, both good and bad depending on your actions.

The significance of the skirt in the commandments is that it represents your obligation and commitment as a man of Yah to being a husband within the order of the commandments of Yah and NOT the world.

…I sware unto thee, and entered into a covenant with thee

It is the responsibility of the man to lay out the terms of the marriage covenant to the woman which mandatorialy as standard includes the provision of food, clothing and conjugal rights. If the woman wants or agrees, she can go without the food and clothing provisions from the man, if she can take care of these herself, neither you nor the woman can change this arbitrarily AFTER becoming one flesh. Becoming one flesh is non negotiable, without becoming one flesh you are not married.

As long as you have shelter she has shelter. If she has a separate abode that she prefers to stay in that is okay.

I cannot emphasise enough how important it is to be clear with communicating your covenant to the woman to avoid confusion, discord and bitterness later on in the marriage.

If the woman does not want to submit to the terms of your covenant that you give your word to uphold, then walk away. Simple, do not argue do not debate just walk.

If the woman is a virgin and/or under the authority of her father in his house, you MUST get authority / permission from her father or the responsible adult male in her life. No eloping allowed. There would also be a dowry of some sort that would be given to the father.

If the woman is not a virgin and not under the authority of her father in his house, then there is no dowry necessary.

Let me be clear men, this woman is not a secret wife, you must make it clear that she is your wife publicly or to others, either before or after you become one flesh.

To seal the marriage covenant you will take the woman and become one flesh with her. Then she will be your woman / wife.

What about the ceremony?

I hear some ask.

You can celebrate with a meal before or after making her yours. There is no ceremony required for a man to take a woman as his wife.

Although a marriage license is NOT required as a man it is good in this current day and age to put certain paperwork in place for the protection of the woman, some suggestions are listed below at the end of the men’s section.

A wicked woman is given as a portion to a wicked man: but a godly woman is given to him that feareth YAH. [Sirach 8]

If you acquire a wicked woman understand that you got her because you have been wicked. On the other hand understand that when you fear YAH and walk uprightly before him, HE will give you a godly woman.

HOW A GODLY WOMAN SUBMITS TO A GODLY MAN AS HER HUSBAND ACCORDING TO THE BIBLE

Then YAH God said, “It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him a helper fit for him.” — Genesis 2:18 ESV

As a woman you are created to help a man, to be with a man.

And the rib that YAH God had taken from the man he made into a woman and brought her to the man. — Genesis 2:22 ESV

As a woman you are created to be a gift therefore by default you are precious, so how you maintain yourself and the man you choose to be with is of life changing importance.

Likewise, ye women (wives), [be] in subjection to your own husbands; that, if any obey not the word, they also may without the word be won by the conversation of the wives; While they behold your chaste conversation [coupled] with fear. — 1 Peter 3:1-6

The apostle Peter by the leading of the holy spirit laid out the basic requirements to be a holy woman, a good woman.

There are three main pieces of guidance as a woman, pray to YAH that he gives you to a godly man who, fears YAH first, that you can help…

And…

Read the following passages of scriptures to give you even more understanding of the qualities of a woman both good and bad…

As a woman I suggest you find a godly woman who you can go to for practical guidance on being a good woman / wife and mother, who has a track record, evidence of being a godly wife and mother.

Who can find a virtuous woman? for her price [is] far above rubies. The heart of her husband doth safely trust in her, so that he shall have no need of spoil. She will do him good and not evil all the days of her life. She seeketh wool, and flax, and worketh willingly with her hands. She is like the merchants’ ships; she bringeth her food from afar. She riseth also while it is yet night, and giveth meat to her household, and a portion to her maidens. She considereth a field, and buyeth it: with the fruit of her hands she planteth a vineyard. She girdeth her loins with strength, and strengtheneth her arms. She perceiveth that her merchandise [is] good: her candle goeth not out by night. She layeth her hands to the spindle, and her hands hold the distaff. She stretcheth out her hand to the poor; yea, she reacheth forth her hands to the needy. She is not afraid of the snow for her household: for all her household [are] clothed with scarlet. She maketh herself coverings of tapestry; her clothing [is] silk and purple. Her husband is known in the gates, when he sitteth among the elders of the land. She maketh fine linen, and selleth [it]; and delivereth girdles unto the merchant. Strength and honour [are] her clothing; and she shall rejoice in time to come. She openeth her mouth with wisdom; and in her tongue [is] the law of kindness. She looketh well to the ways of her household, and eateth not the bread of idleness. Her children arise up, and call her blessed; her husband [also], and he praiseth her. Many daughters have done virtuously, but thou excellest them all. Favour [is] deceitful, and beauty [is] vain: [but] a woman [that] feareth YAH, she shall be praised. Give her of the fruit of her hands; and let her own works praise her in the gates. — Proverbs 31:10-31

I have seen many Proverbs 31 conferences, seminars and such like where single women are naming and claiming the title of being a virtuous woman because they have a business or they are successful in their career, however they miss the essential ingredient, A HUSBAND.

Blessed is the man that hath a virtuous wife, for the number of his days shall be double. A virtuous woman rejoiceth her husband, and he shall fulfil the years of his life in peace. A good wife is a good portion, which shall be given in the portion of them that fear YAH. Whether a man be rich or poor, if he have a good heart toward YAH, he shall at all times rejoice with a cheerful countenance. There be three things that mine heart feareth; and for the fourth I was sore afraid: the slander of a city, the gathering together of an unruly multitude, and a false accusation: all these are worse than death. But a grief of heart and sorrow is a woman that is jealous over another woman, and a scourge of the tongue which communicateth with all. An evil wife is a yoke shaken to and fro: he that hath hold of her is as though he held a scorpion. A drunken woman and a gadder abroad causeth great anger, and she will not cover her own shame. The whoredom of a woman may be known in her haughty looks and eyelids. If thy daughter be shameless, keep her in straitly, lest she abuse herself through overmuch liberty. Watch over an impudent eye: and marvel not if she trespass against thee. She will open her mouth, as a thirsty traveller when he hath found a fountain, and drink of every water near her: by every hedge will she sit down, and open her quiver against every arrow. The grace of a wife delighteth her husband, and her discretion will fatten his bones. A silent and loving woman is a gift of YAH; and there is nothing so much worth as a mind well instructed. A shamefaced and faithful woman is a double grace, and her continent mind cannot be valued. As the sun when it ariseth in the high heaven; so is the beauty of a good wife in the ordering of her house. As the clear light is upon the holy candlestick; so is the beauty of the face in ripe age. As the golden pillars are upon the sockets of silver; so are the fair feet with a constant heart. My son, keep the flower of thine age sound; and give not thy strength to strangers. When thou hast gotten a fruitful possession through all the field, sow it with thine own seed, trusting in the goodness of thy stock. So thy race which thou leavest shall be magnified, having the confidence of their good descent. An harlot shall be accounted as spittle; but a married woman is a tower against death to her husband. A wicked woman is given as a portion to a wicked man: but a godly woman is given to him that feareth YAH. A dishonest woman contemneth shame: but an honest woman will reverence her husband. A shameless woman shall be counted as a dog; but she that is shamefaced will fear YAH. A woman that honoureth her husband shall be judged wise of all; but she that dishonoureth him in her pride shall be counted ungodly of all. A loud crying woman and a scold shall be sought out to drive away the enemies. [Ecclesiasticus 26]

Remember, woman, you are created to be a gift from YAH God to a man.

Read the section before, containing instructions for men, so that you are aware of what a man should do and that you do not give yourself away for a happy meal and a movie or a lustful encounter.
