OBEDIENCE OF THE FAITH
By whom we have received grace and apostleship, for obedience to the faith among all nations, for his name: — Romans 1:5 KJV
THE FORBIDDEN FOUR LETTER WORD
Obey seems to be a taboo word within Christianity. Sitting down with very many believers over three decades, what has been consistent is the proliferation of doctrines that teach Christians how to not obey what is written via a super spiritual new understanding that not only allows perpetual sin but in many cases promotes it.
But now is made manifest, and by the scriptures of the prophets, according to the commandment of the everlasting God, made known to all nations for the obedience of faith: — Romans 16:26 KJV
TO OBEY OR NOT OBEY THAT IS THE QUESTION
We see over and over again, not just through the law and the prophets/testimony, commonly called the old Testament, but as we have seen, within the testimony of the Apostles, aka the new Testament, obedience is central to the call of YAH God to salvation.
To the law and to the testimony: if they speak not according to this word, it is because there is no light in them. — Isaiah 8:20 KJV
This hasn’t changed since the time of Cain and Abel. It didn’t change when Jesus Christ came.
“Do not presume that I came to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I did not come to abolish, but to fulfill. — Matthew 5:17 NASB20
It didn’t change when the Apostles were preaching.
Do we then nullify the Law through faith? Far from it! On the contrary, we establish the Law. — Romans 3:31 NASB20
So there is really one question we should be asking…
WHAT HAPPENED?
…wherefore I take you to record this day, that I am pure from the blood of all men. For I have not shunned to declare unto you all the counsel of God... — Acts 20:26-27 KJV
Why did the Apostle Paul make such a bold and deep statement to declare his innocence
“When I say to the wicked, ‘You wicked person, you will certainly die,’ and you do not speak to warn the wicked about his way, that wicked person shall die for his wrongdoing, but I will require his blood from your hand. “But if you on your part warn a wicked person to turn from his way and he does not turn from his way, he will die for his wrongdoing, but you have saved your life. — Ezekiel 33:8-9 NASB20
Paul was not speaking his own words or his own message. He gave the whole counsel of God, which is a requirement when preaching the Kingdom of God, because, after all, it is the kingdom of God, and remember, we are taught to pray…
“Pray, then, in this way: ‘Our Father who is in heaven, Hallowed be Your name. ‘Your kingdom come. Your will be done, On earth as it is in heaven. ‘Give us this day our daily bread. ‘And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. ‘And do not lead us into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.’ — Matthew 6:9-13 NASB95
A kingdom has rules, regulations, standards that the subjects, the inhabitants of that kingdom are bound to keep or face a penalty of some sort, prison or banishment.
Think of it like this, the kingdoms of this world will be conquered and placed under subjection by YaHushuWaH aka Jesus.
And the seventh angel sounded; and there were great voices in heaven, saying, The kingdoms of this world are become the kingdoms of our Lord, and of his Christ; and he shall reign for ever and ever. — Revelation 11:15 KJV
Let me assure you that just like every other conquerer and conquering nation, from the kingdoms of Babylon to Rome to Great Britain, colonisation is not a passive activity, the laws, statutes, judgements, the standards of the conquerer are imposed on the conquered nations. However, unlike those other Kingdoms before, the Kingdom of God and His Christ will be forever.
With all of that said and done, obedience is something that should be lived diligently.
Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out (work to accomplish/finish) your own salvation with fear and trembling. — Philippians 2:12
So Jesus was saying to those Jews who had believed Him, “If you continue in My word, then you are truly disciples of Mine; and you will know the truth, and the truth will make you free.” — John 8:31-32 NASB95
…and because of this we are instructed, beseeched…
I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God. — Romans 12:1-2 KJV
So we really have to ask ourselves two questions
- What exactly is the faith ?
- How do we know we are in faith ?
Well we can answer both with scripture
- So Jesus was saying to those Jews who had believed Him, “If you continue in My word, then you are truly disciples of Mine; and you will know the truth, and the truth will make you free.” — John 8:31-32 NASB95
- Beloved, while I was making every effort to write you about our common salvation, I felt the necessity to write to you appealing that you contend earnestly for the faith which was once for all handed down to the saints. — Jude 1:3 NASB95
- keep yourselves in the love of God, waiting anxiously for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ to eternal life. — Jude 1:21 NASB95
- Test yourselves to see if you are in the faith; examine yourselves! Or do you not recognize this about yourselves, that Jesus Christ is in you—unless indeed you are unapproved? — 2 Corinthians 13:5 NASB95
3 AREAS OF SELF EXAMINATION
You, however, continue in the things you have learned and become convinced of, knowing from whom you have learned them, and that from childhood you have known the sacred writings which are able to give you the wisdom that leads to salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; so that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work. — 2 Timothy 3:14-17 NASB95
There are 3 areas in life that affect everyone,
Culture, Money and Marriage.
Without examining what the word says and cross referencing the above areas with what you believe and practice, you will not know where you stand, as to whether you are in a place of acceptance or rejection in the faith
So faith comes from hearing, and hearing by the word of God. — Romans 10:17 NASB95
I encourage you to prayerfully read or listen to the word of God and examine yourself to see where you stand in the faith…
...I bow my knees before the Father, from whom every family in heaven and on earth derives its name, that He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with power through His Spirit in the inner man, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; and that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth, and to know the love of Christ which surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled up to all the fullness of God... — Ephesians 3:14-19 NASB95
For this cause we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to desire that ye might be filled with the knowledge of his will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding; That ye might walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing, being fruitful in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God; Strengthened with all might, according to his glorious power, unto all patience and longsuffering with joyfulness; Giving thanks unto the Father, which hath made us meet to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light: Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son: In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins: — Colossians 1:9-14 KJV
And with many other words he solemnly testified and kept on exhorting them, saying, “Be saved from this perverse generation!” So then, those who had received his word were baptized; and that day there were added about three thousand souls. They were continually devoting themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. — Acts 2:40-42 NASB95
